If you’ve been following along with my updates regarding this years “A Chicago Halloween” piece, you’ll know that this years featured hood is Andersonville and that in one way or another it’s going to involve some Tomte.
I laughed out loud when I saw a friend post her concern, on my Facebook page, that I might ruin Tomte for her. I think she’s worried I’ll go too dark with the folklore or something. I pointed out that there are stories of Tomte biting people and driving them mad or killing them, but typically I wouldn’t go that direction with my “A Chicago Halloween” series. However, while researching the Tomte, there was a moment where something similar to the above little fellow wasn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility. Hence the laughter.

Here’s a sample of how this years “A Chicago Halloween” piece is coming along. If you didn’t already figure it out, this years featured hood is Andersonville.
Still a long way to go, but at least I have the concept and color palette worked out. Time to get back to work. So many Tomte to draw and storms to paint. Weeeeeeeeee!!!

Holy CRAP!!! Seven months since my last post?!? I guess this is gonna be a seasonal thing? That or I need to get my priorities straight, and who wants to do that.
Anyways… here be the first doodle for this years A Chicago Halloween piece. It’s a Tomte! That’s you’re only hint about what neighborhood I’ll be featuring this year. It’s one of my favorites, especially because it’s been the home to so many good friends. Now, go cheat and use the internets to figure it out.

A few photos of my lovely friends and family, who came out to support me at my show earlier this month. In case you’re wondering, I’m the goon in the tie.

Thanks again to everyone who came out, Color Wheel Studio for hosting and Melissa Garvey for the photos.

Also, if you purchased prints, and didn’t already make special pickup arrangements, they should be waiting for you at Virtu on Tuesday.

This work in progress is something of an accident. It came about while I was working on “A Chicago Halloween - Bucktown”. It nicely fit an idea I had always had for a piece, so I ran with it. I think it’ll be creepy awesome when it’s done (not that it’s far from complete now actually). Probably be my first straight black and white piece. Anyway, much work for Halloween to be done today. Laters.
