In case you’re behind, I’ve been posting our Halloween party invitations from over the years, for the last week or so. Check out my post from the 10th for some background, and a halfway amusing story of a boy a pig and a party.

This was our 10th party invite. A DECADE of Halloween parties! I love the outside of the invite. I love the pumpkins and the costume materials. Not a huge fan of how the inside turned out. Leave me alone! I was under alot of pressure!!!

Our 9th party landed on Halloween proper, so I knew we had to do something special with Boy and Pig. Little did I know it would be so hard to top for years to come.

Notice the subliminal date and time references in the illustration. This was to help some of our friends who would somehow show up the week before or after the party.

Pro Tip: If you’re over 24 years of age, or any of your friends have kids, never try to have a Halloween party on a Friday. Even if Halloween lands on a Friday. I shit you not, unless you wanna hear crap like “We fell asleep (in costume) on the couch” do not have a Friday party.

In case you’re behind, between now and the 31st I’m posting our Halloween party invitations from over the years. Check out my post from the 10th for some background and a halfway amusing story of a boy a pig and a party.

This is from our third year of Boy and Pig, and I know in the first post I said you’d have to guess the costumes yourselves… but c’mon… clearly Pig is Tron-Pig. TRON-PIG!!! F-ing love Tron-Pig.

Also, you may have noticed Boy’s t-shirt change. Besides Zim, we also love Venture Bros. It’s just so freaking good! Best. Show. Ever. You hear that, The Wire fans? Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. What the HELL with last season though, right? So short. Oh well, that Halloween episode kicked ass.

I figured other Simpsons/Lego fans would enjoy this. These are the things I do for Halloween. Yes, I have problems.

In case you can’t tell from the photos: Homer/Storm Trooper, Marge/Witch, Bart/Lance Murdock, Maggie/Cyborg, Lisa/Joan of Arc, Nelson/William Foster (Falling Down), Burns/Dracula

Happy Halloween!!!

So almost 14 years ago now my wife and I started hosting a Halloween party. Which I had always wanted to do because my parents always threw a big shindig on All Hallows. This being due to my folks getting married on Halloween, my mother being born on Halloween and her side of the family originating from the birth place of Halloween (bunch o’ Irish bastards).

Anyways, for the first few years of our party we made some crappy email/website invites, which were mostly kinda lame. For the fourth party we decided to start mailing out actual invitations and give the party an official title - The Halloween Spectacular of Spooky Doom!!! Yes, we took that shiz directly from Invader Zim. What of it? It’s a super dope name for a party! And, if you’re a Zim fan, the pig should look pretty familiar too. What?!? Zim was HUUUUGE back then! Well, not huge, but it was awesome. Moving on!

We wanted to make the invite something that would change, but that we could reuse every year. Plus, somehow we wanted to show folks that with very little effort you could throw a costume together. So we came up with a sort of paper doll idea, borrowed/stole a little from the afore mentioned Invader Zim and Boy and Pig were born. Those are their names, by the way. Boy and Pig.

We’ve been using Boy and Pig for the past 11 years now, and I thought it would be fun to share them with muh fans. Especially since, as I mentioned previously, I won’t be completing a “A Chicago Halloween” piece this year, I thought this would be an entertaining substitute of posts.

I’ll post all 11 invites between now and Halloween. Hopefully with a little background on each as need be. It’s up to you to guess the costumes though.

Enjoy and have a Happy Halloween!!!

Life is crazy. It’s full of ups and downs, and sometimes more downs than ups. But, with a bit of hope, a little determination and the support of the people around you, you keep moving forward.
Another thing I find you can always use, during the challenging times, a good dose of prioritization. It can do wonders for managing your stress level, and focusing your energy on the important stuff. Regrettably, with that thought in mind, I won’t be completing a “A Chicago Halloween” piece this year. Hopefully this doesn’t come as to much of a blow to my fans, especially those from Andersonville. Trust me, it bums me out too, but it was the best decision I could make.
On the bright side, you’ll get two neighborhoods next year! I promise. And, Andersonville will be all the more dope by the time it’s done.
Also, for all of your support and understanding, and because it’s almost Halloween, I’m gonna be giving away a free print to some lucky duck! Tune in tomorrow for more details on how that’s gonna work.
Thanks, everybody. Now get out there and enjoy yourself some fall!
